Insect Vacuum for Squishless Pest Removal

jpbugsucker.jpg

Should you feel guilt about smashing nature’s tiny, soulless robots—some call them insects—this Japanese-made device uses pneumatics to suck them into a little plastic cage, allowing you to set them free outdoors, where they will wander back into your home.

If you happen to buy this, just do me one favor: leave the spiders. They’re a good friend to any home.

Joel, I used to be on the same page as you regarding spiders. Then I had a veritable infestation! They set up shop around my front door, both overhead garage doors, and in/on my project car. Opening either garage door involves a careful selection of where to lift so I don’t get a handful of spider and web. On one occasion, a spider fell into my shirt and decided he didn’t like it in there, causing a nice bite that took a week to heal. What can I do!? I hate spraying. I’ve cleaned off the webs but they come back. There aren’t that many bugs around, but I do have a big, garden-and-weed-prone yard, so there’s enough to keep ‘em fed..

Sorry, I just had to complain about my new spider kingdom.

I do have the coolest huge spider over my front door right now. He’s fat and crouches with his legs pulled in tight. I need to get a picture before the mailman spooks him one too many times.

Why seek out some electric-powered Japanese bug sucker when you can get the spring-powered BugZooka from Amazon for $20? Works great and never runs out of power. We tried some cheapy electric version first that had no suction, then gave the Bugzooka a try and ended up buying a couple more of them for friends.

I know this sounds like some paid ad, but we really like how it works, my 2 year old son loves seeing the captured bugs we are “setting free”, and it severely reduces the heeby-jeebie factor I have about big spiders (yes I know they’re beneficial and all).

Glad to read about people that don’t kill spiders! I actually stop people from doing it in my house, if they freak out I relocate the spider. I only kill them if they bite me, which hasn’t happened yet. I’d rather have spiders than all the other bugs that they eat, and they help keep from houseplants from getting spider mites and the like. Go spiders!

in Japan we have some very annoying jumping spiders. They jump on anything that moves. I don t like spiders. I will buy this machine.

My kids had a toy that was this same kind of thing, but came with a little cage to keep the bugs in. Like a bug habitrail. I don’t remember who made it, but it was a popular American company. Discovery Channel toys maybe? It was fatter and green though.

That bug picture reminds me of the Butt-biting bug thing that was posted on the main blog about a week ago. XD

Texans who don’t like brown recluse bites should probably go ahead and kill spiders. :)
