Deputy Dog has a collection of “7 unusual propeller-driven vehicles,” including this “Rail Zeppelin” by Frank Kruchenberg, driven by a BMW aircraft engine that brought the train speed to a then-record-breaking 145 MPH in 1931.

    I love that the railplane has a stained glass window on it’s door. I’m also in love with the propeller driven car… I wonder how hard it’d be to build one of my own.

    oh my – that is some cow catcher! or is it a cow sprayer?

    why did they create these things? is it not obvious that a mechanical drive would be more efficient? were they just caught up in the novelty?

    Stained glass window in a prop-driven traincar? I’ll shoot it out with the front-mounted machine gun on my prop-driven snowmobile! There is nothing cooler than this Soviet death machine!
