Fingers Laptop Stand Concept Pinches Cables
I don't think this prototype laptop stand design is quite there yet—propping up your laptop on a rounded, slippery bit of acrylic doesn't seem like a winner—but the addition of "fingers" at the back to hold cables in place when away from your desk is quite clever. Even if you have a laptop with all its ports along the side like a Macbook, the Fingers design might still help prevent the terror of cables slipping off the edge of your desk down into the wire brambles under your desk.
There don't appear to be any real plans to produce the Fingers unit, but some enterprising laptop stand company may try something similar soon.

I just use a Yellow Pages phone book to prop up my laptop at the optimum typing angle and put all the wires between the pages when I go mobile ;-)
Hey, it works for me!
Hell, this thing would be good for my desktop. Especially for those of us suckers who keep buying gadgets with proprietary cables. There's never anything aesthetically pleasing to do with those connectors and chargers, except roll them up and put them away every time.
Don't think of it as a stand; just think of it as a widget to keep the cables from sliding down behind your desk. (In other words, all you really need is the fingers/comb/whatever; the rest of it's there to support that.)
A docking station's a better answer, as far as I'm concerned, but does cost more than a somewhat-stylish piece of plastic.
