TI-Nspire Graphing Calculator with Swappable Keys

ti_nspire.jpg

The latest graphing calculator from Texis Instruments, the “TI-Nspire,” has an all new interface, including a set of tiny alphabet nubbins in between its buttons to make it easier to input characters. But if that makes your professors freak out about all the course work they’ve built around the popular Ti-84/83 interface, the TI-NSpire can be thrown into a full compatibility mode, including a replaceable faceplate with the traditional TI-84 Plus layout.

The TI-Nspire is available for around $140. It probably does another fancy things, too, but I can barely spell “maths,” let alone understand them.

I don’t get why the screens are still so awful on calculators – shouldn’t backlit color lcds be pretty cheap by now?

(on the other hand, my hp48 has had the same batteries in it for like 12 years, so maybe I already know the answer)

This is the “American” model, the second keypad cripples it into a TI84 for use on ACT, SAT and other standardized tests. The TI84 is type accepted by the testing services. The real model is the CAS version, without the cripple.
It has a symbolic algebra kernel based on Derive. It solves equations, does calculus, stats, etc. Also a spreadsheet page to enter or display tabular data.
Excellent graphics on a monochrome screen, a real document model to save data and programs, USB port.
This is the calculator you wanted 30 years ago when the TI30 replaced your slide rule.
Thru the miracle of Chinese slave labor, same list price as a TI8x. Buy one today.

Why would you want color on a graphing calc? And backlighting is just gonna run down the battery faster.

Feh! Nothing wrong with my Ti-84 Silver, and it even plays nice with my Linux box. Who needs nubbins?
