Video: FluteTronic 8-Bit Light Flute

The "FluteTronic" is a homebrew instrument that plays like a traditional flute, but uses various levels of light to trigger a sensor which in turn controls a synthesizer. A similar sensor in the mouthpiece controls the vibrato. The noise it makes isn't exactly music, but then again neither is Jethro Tull.

If this had been Digg, I would have dugg this down as lame. I mean, the hardware design is interesting, but the output certainly isn't. Couldn't they have at least had it producing a nice, 8-bit-sounding square wave? Blow harder, volume goes up, blow softer, volume goes down (so that tremolo is somewhat easy to acieve.)

Also, the Jethro Tull put-down is also worth an extra digg-down.
