Does the Star Trek DVD collection have the version of STV that actually makes sense, somewhere in it?

Two questions make me hesitate buying it. It has to suck battery life, I know my laptop life is about 5 times longer with wifi disabled. Wonder if it has an off switch on it.
The other would be can it send/recieve any file, or would it be restricted to jpg’s by the software for some reason. It would be quite handy for my non-wifi PDA (which I use plugged in whenever possible).
