Kamenstein SmartSpice Rack

digrack.jpgJust to prove that the gadgets industry never met a product it couldn't clutter up with a needless LCD screen, the Kamenstein SmartSpice Rack includes a digital cookbook of over 200 recipes and a timer! "All in one!"

Also includes spices.

Here are ways this $65 orbital space turd could have been improved: sensors that note what spice has been removed, displaying cooking suggestions on screen; a giant red button on the top labeled "Pepper," which periodically discharges aerosolized capsaicin into the air whether or not the button has actually been pressed; some spices are actually spray-painted iron filings, while others are not spray-painted; it could have been made of wood and cost $10.

... or if it used the screen to track and display the age of the spices in the rack, so you could toss things that have gone super stale.

There's nothing that I like more than reading a long-ass recipe off of a dinky little LCD screen.

Another feature: Spice Randomizer

as much as i agree with the pointlessness of it, i really really want one.

Seriously, why not add a feature that is relevant? Like perhaps making the SmartSpice Rack actually "smart" enough that it will keep track of the age of the spices in the containers? Spices lose their kick as they age, and unless you keep spices in the containers you bought them in (or are anal enough to keep notes elsewhere), you generally have no idea how old the spices are.
