OrbiTouch Keyless Keyboard and Mouse

orbitouch.jpg

The orbiTouch is a (very) non-standard input device that allows you to control your computer by manipulating two paddles towards an outer ring. (They slide instead of turn.) By combining the positions of both, a variety of keystrokes, including letters, can be performed. It’s not a replacement for a standard keyboard, but instead an alternative input device for those with disabilities that might prevent them from typing on a standard QWERTY.

It’s also $400, so best reserved for those who really need it.

I saw an ad for one of these a few years back (an ad in a store window of a non-computer store, at that), and it seemed kind of ridiculous.

Has anyone used one of these before?

^That was my thought exactly. Seeing someone use these would be a lot like a certain scene in American Pie 2.

I would be so farked if my hands ever got screwed up. I learned to touch type at 16 (dad insisted it was the most important skill I would ever learn, he had no idea of the onset of computers then…). I’ve pretty well learned to thumb-type on my phone for text messages but it’s still way way slower than my typing.
