Deal: 7-Inch Video Screen for iPod (or Whatever) for $60

VIDEO-55-unit.jpgThis "Sonic Impact Video 55 iPod Player" isn't as slick as it could be. The iPod doesn't actually dock inside the unit, but appears to attach via composite cables. But the price is right—just $60 for a 7-inch LCD with speakers, powered by its own internal battery. It used to cost $300, but at its discounted price it might be a decent option for a kid's video player. (Esp. if the kid has their own iPod or portable game system that does video out.)

Make sure you use code VID55 to get the final $20 off.

I'm guessing this isn't compatible with the newest video ipods.
It does appear to be a dock in unit, however.

I've got one of these, and they work great. You can dock your video iPod in there, but Pekar is probably right that the Touch and the iPhone don't work or need a special connector. The sound and picture are surprisingly good, and you can use it to charge your iPod as well. Thumbs up, and that's a great price. I paid $125 for mine, and it seemed like a deal then.

I have one. I got it on Woot for $80. It's awesome. The iPod (mine is a 5G, and yes, it probably won't work on the new models) DOES dock inside, and if it's black it looks like part of the same unit, just slick as hell. The fit and finish are great, and the sound and screen are acceptable. The biggest drawback is that it doesn't charge the iPod; even if the V55 has a full battery, you're done watching if the battery in the iPod dies.

Joel: Just to confirm, the Video 55 does indeed have a docking slot for your iPod to fit inside, although it works only with fifth-generation (5G) iPods; newer video-capable iPods -- iPod classic, iPod touch, 3G iPod nano, and iPhone -- don't work with it.

I love how Apple came up with a "universal" dock connector .. then broke it.

(Provided you define "love" as "hate.")

It's worth adding that if your iPod refuses to go into Disk Mode and you hear a noticeable clicking sound the problem might just be corrosion on the HDD cable and will need cleaned periodically.
