Actually, it's probably crocheted and then super starched from the looks of it. Pardon my nit-picky-ness.
No need to apologize, Abbey. I've been trying to mind the difference between knitting and crocheting, but I can't yet figure it out just from looking at the end result. (I know that crocheting is just one needle though, right?)
It looks very burny, but CFL bulbs would probably run cool enough to be safe!
It's definitely crocheted. If you want to learn to tell the difference between them, but don't actually want to learn to do them (which is the best way!), try looking at some online how-to sites and pattern collections -- many of them have good pictures of the finished products.
(For some reason, when I'm logged in, the reCaptcha thing doesn't display, and I can't post. I don't have it adblocked, and I tried turning off adbblock and greasemonkey to no avail. Logged out and back in, too. No joy.)
