Steampunk, Anglepoise Webcam is No Mod

Could the cheap Chinese manufacturers be sniffing out our propensity for steampunk computer peripherals? This "Driverless Webcam" has an obviously anachro-fantastic design, although its $12 price belies its plastic construction. Still: shiny! (For me it's less about the admittedly attractive top and more about the articulated arm. If I owned my residence, I'd put every screen I have on some sort of counter-levered arm, and perhaps keyboards and other peripherals, too.)

Don't let that cheap price lure you, though. Apparently the shipping starts around $26, so you might want to wait until someone imports a crate of these things via tramp steamer.

Cool vision, that would be the sex. At least as long as it doesn't give you a constant feeling of living in a dentist's practice ;-) If I had the dough, I'd have these arms fashioned from 1st-generation Steadicam harnesses.

Well, belie basically means "betray," although in the above context it's a little confusing, I'll admit, since the traditional usage is usually "reveals" the inverse. So betray isn't really better than belie, although I'll cop to neither word being optimal.

This one's actually a higher res camera than the one you linked to.

Note that a) this isn't my auction and b) the seller is in Hong Kong. So buyer beware. (And the guy selling this item is going to wonder where all this random traffic showed up from.)

If you search for "webcam LED", you'll come up with something. Looks like there are a bunch of colors available (most of them hideous), but they all look like painted plastic.

Actually, in the above context, 'belie' basically means the exact opposite of 'betray'. But I'll admit that it's basically obvious what you mean :-)
