Oakley Minute Machine Titanium Edition’s Band is Interesting, Ugly

oakleyminutemachine.jpg

While I think the overall design is embarrassingly goofy (no surprise, considering the manufacturer), the Oakley Minute Machine watch certainly has an interesting band, made from interlocking titanium segments with self-lubricating carbon rings. It’s almost cool, but the watch face itself looks like a mindlessly designed enemy spaceship from a cut-rate sci-fi shooter.

Prices vary quite a bit online, but appears to be in the sub-$1,000 range.

The reviewer speaks of “having grown up in a house of Rolexes and Tag Heuers”. Can’t really relate to that; I grew up in a house of Timexes and Casios.

I grew up in a house of people.

Man, you guys are crazy. I grew up in a house of brick and lumber. A house of people would smell, and a house of watches would be really expensive.

I own a ROLEX Submariner that I’ve had since 1972. I bought it because scuba diving is one of my hobbies. I find it utilitarian, attractive,
almost indestructible, self winding with no need for batteries or a stem to wind it and it’s an attention getter in better circles. Expensive when I bought it but it’s served me well for more than 30 years.
I feel sorry for those who must, of neccessity wear Timex’s, Bulova’s and other plebian watches.
It’s too bad that everyone couldn’t have a ROLEX but then how would we tell the well off from the poorer segments of society. I feel so sorry for those poor people who seem to be always with us.
Why don’t they pull themselves up by their bootstraps, the lazy bums.

the face reminds me of something from the early-90s scrolling shooter raiden. a fine game.
