Crank Brothers Multi-19 Bike Tool

multi-19.jpg

The Crank Brothers Multi-19 is a tiny multi-tool for cyclists and looks chock-a-block with handy tools in a no-snag flask case.

From Cool Tools:

It has the same chain tool as the previously-reviewed Multi-17. The two are nearly identical, except the Multi-19 has double the number of screwdrivers (two flat, two Phillips). Plus, in addition to the following hex keys (2, 2.5, 3, 5, 6 and 8), there’s also a 4m, which just so happens to be the size needed to adjust my rear derailer’s pulley bolts (can’t imagine I’ll ever need to do that — let alone on the road — but it’s comforting to know I’m carrying a hex that’s pretty much suited to every inch of my bike).

It’s only twenty bucks.

Not bad, although I think that I’ll still stick with my Topeak Alien. Cool Tools also linked to something called the http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=562“>Tool Belt, which looks like a decent alternative for everyday wearing.

I bought it about 2 months ago. Works great, very sturdy. Typical crankbros. The top of the “flask” pops off frequently tho.

I have had to make an allen wrench out of a piece of thick wire I found on the side of the road to tighten a rear derailer’s pulley bolts. I just kept rubbing it on the concrete to make edges. Freak need but I always have my pulley size with me now.

    where’s the headset wrench?

  5. Stakker says:

PS: Crank Bros. makes mountainbike components. Mountainbikes these days all use threadless aheadsets, so there is no need for a headset wrench. (If your headset becomes loose for some reason – which is unlikely – just use standard allen keys to tighten the preload cap and stem bolts.)

I have the Crank Bros. multitool in my hydration pack, and it’s excellent. Mine didn’t come with that flask, but it would be slightly ridiculous on the trails anyway… (the rubber band thingy works great, and it doesn’t snag).
