Smoking Mittens

smoking_mittens.jpgI know, I know. Don't smoke. But as the fact that these "Suck UK Smoking Mittens" are out of stock testifies, I'm clearly not the only person out there still trying to find ways to hold a cigarette while not letting my fingers turn to meat shards.

They're £15. You can make us go outside, but you can't make us enjoy it!

Pure Genius! Much better than the fingerless gloves I'm used to...

What about using gloves and a lovely Audrey-esque cigarette holder? It's what I used to do when I smoked. (May suit women better, but I'm sure that those of you who are man enough can pull it off.)

Back when I was a smoker and going to college in the UP of Michigan, I would use the clip on any old pen or mechanical pencil to hold my cigarette, then I would hold the pen by the end in my mittened hands. Cheap and easy and kept my hands warm.

Am I the only one disturbed by the fact that these are advertising using an adolescent model?

I found these for sale on Amazon! Cheaper than the site in the UK (durn exchange rate) and much cheaper-faster shipping. I ordered 2 pairs.

I can't wait for them to come in! This Chicago Smoking Ban sucks major balls.

Hilarious. Those are just trigger finger mittens rebranded as smoking mittens.

I have a pair that were made for biking in the cold, but this design has been around forever.

Too bad when California exported its smoking ban, it didn't send along the mild weather as well.

Huh. I came from the main boingboing site based on just a text description, and I was expecting the subject to be this mitten pattern from Knitty.com.

I don't smoke, but I certainly like the looks of the knitty pattern better.

I quit smoking a while ago, but the only lasting good thing I got out of it is an ability to tolerate cold. I lived in various no-smoking-indoors environments and I was always too lazy to put on a jacket (or frequently shoes). To this day I don't mind being very cold as long as I know I'll be warm again in a few minutes.

Man.. I need a smoke now.

#6 - If you look at the product you'll see that they aren't trigger finger rip offs, they are actually a complete mitten with a metal tube inserted for the evil smoking stick.

#4 - it's the Lolita angle, just dressed up in fur coats and mittens instead of wool.....or is that a different metaphor? I forget...
