Video: 3 Designers + 4 Days + Lots of Sweat = Omaha Beach Recreation

This awesome promo clip for the upcoming "Bloody Omaha" special on the BBC (narrated by Top Gear's Richard Hammond) shows how three designers used small cameras, hand-held greenscreens, and an armada's worth of technical know-how to recreate the Allied storming of Omaha Beach.

(Thanks, Matt!)

Bloody Omaha is a pretty unfortunate name for this special given the recent mall shooting that occurred here, but so it goes. Impressive video though.

"Bloody Omaha" is the WWII era name of the offensive.

This is interesting! I've always wondered how they did the footage for all those documentaries I see all the time.

That is bloody amazing!
As a 2nd year university student studying digital media, I would cut out a pound of - no more no less - intern with the people who made this. Insane!

The name of the offensive was Overlord. Omaha was the designation given to one of the beaches in Normandy that was stormed by American troops. The American armour was dropped too far off shore and sank, making the actually assault a near-disaster.

This program was shown on the BBC (in the UK) several days ago. So I am afraid it isn't upcoming. Those who have a UK IP address should be able to view it here http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b008p88c.shtml?q=omaha&start=1&scope=iplayersearch&version_pid=b008p858

apologies for the length of the link

That's awesome, they must have been shattered by the time they finished. very inspiring to see what can be done from a small pool of (expert) resources... can't wait to see the whole programme.
