Go-One Recumbent Tricycle
The Go-One is an enclosed tricycle capable of speeds up to 20MPH that can be rigged up with an optional 500-watt electrical assistance motor. Still, no special license is needed in North America, says the manufacturer, as "bicycle rules apply." You can pop the top in the summer to enjoy the breeze or keep yourself sealed inside completely, wholly unlike a dead cat in a pine box. Holes cut in the bottom allow you to push the Go-One in reverse in a technique they call "the Flintstones method."
Since 2006, eight Go-Ones have been sold in North America.
The base rate for a Go-One is just shy of $11k, although adding additional options like the lighting package or assistance motor will obviously increase the price. Don't let me mild sneer fool you—I think these things are pretty nifty. I'd be killed instantly if I tried to ride one in New York, but if I lived somewhere with open roads I could see them making for a pleasant ride to work.

Reminds me of the Leitra, although the Leitra costs a bit more than half as much (maybe more if there's some sort of import tariff).
If you live in a town with a grid-like street system, you could add GPS and play the Tron "Light Cycle" game for real.
I wish this stuff was cheaper!! That's so cool. But there's no way I'm going to spend that much on one. I think you could buy my last five or six cars with that kind of money.
For 11,000USD you can get a Smart Fortwo.
ok here is the biggest problem with this...a half decent 80s road bike that could, with some bags and shit get you across the country and back if you wanted to, would only cost you under $200. so for all intensive reasons there is no way it, you know wouldn't get you across town on your standard commute.
that isn't to say that stuff like this isn't commendable. but it just isn't practical in any way. its just rich white people doing rich white people stuff. you know?
and hell carbon fiber ain't recyclable in anyway at all. so really, purchasing an "environmental" transportation method that isn't "environmentally sound" at all (read cradle-to-cradle) or economically sound, just ain't worth it.
I live in hilo, hawaii and it IS the rainiest city in america. I would love to take this out on a rainy day and not get wet at all! I wonder if it comes with windshield wipers. Way way to exspensive though. I would like to try and make my own using surf board and boat building materials and a regular recumbent tricycle. That would be really really sweet. I'd totally be the biggest nerd ever riding that around though.
