Back to School Mac sale offers free 8GB iPod Touch to students

Apple’s annual back-to-school distribution of free iPods to students who buy a Mac is a hallowed tradition at this point… but the free iPods of years past tended to be the welfare models, the 512MB Shuffles and the like. Uncle Jobs looks like he’s splurging this year, though: Mac-buying students will walk away with an 8GB iPod Touch or Nano. That’s in addition to getting $100 off MacBooks, $200 off the Pros and up to $140 off an iMac.

Does this mean Montevina laptops from Apple will be delayed until September? crap.

Also, I’m guessing the 8GB Touch will no longer be sold after this Back to School sale, just as the 2nd Generation Nano (which I much prefer to this day over the current fat video playing one) ceased to be for sale after last year’s Back to School giveaway.

Why do we never get this in the UK? Does someone have a cluse why it’s always US-only, and whether there are similar offers in _la grande bretagne_?
