Sturdy, slightly less crash-proof ‘black box’ flight recorder case mod

Having skipped off on what is looking to a dangerous dalliance with buying vintage electronics on eBay, I’m especially vulnerable to this “Crashproof File Server Case Mod,” which crams a Mini-ITX motherboard into a flight recorder ripped from a Lockheed C-130 aircraft. Brett, the modder, found his attractive flight box on eBay for just $50. (The closest I could find on there today was this unit for a ridiculous $500 asking price.)

One thing to note if you try this mod at home: the inside of Brett’s box was a lung-macerating effusion of asbestos and fiberglass. Take heed!

Might be easiest and safest to merely style a case to mimic a black box. Not to mention most of us don’t come across surplus flight data recorders very often.
