Femisapien hits Japan as E.M.A.

ema_robot.jpg

How does one sell WowWee’s Femisapien to foreign markets? Dial up the sexy. The 38cm gynobot, renamed “Eternal, Maiden, Actualization,” touts her “glamorous body” in Sega Toys’ marketing copy. What else does she do for $175? Hand out business cards, swagger along, and kiss her owner.

By the time she gets to Europe, she’ll be Rosa Luxemburg in a tutu.

175$? Not bad considerin that the Female Type Robot costs like 3500$.

  2. trr says:

The lower right picture caption says something like “___ and joyful kiss action” to the best of my ability to translate. It might be an onomatopoieic (sp?) word that sounds like kissing, since the same word appears next to the robot as if it’s making a sound.

  3. Nelson.C says:

キス is the Japanese for “kiss”. It’s written in katakana, the characters used for foreign words, since (I’m told) the Japanese didn’t kiss before contact with the West, so it’s a loan word. Katakana also gets used for onomatopoeia in manga, hence “chu”, チュッ which I’m guessing is the manga sound effect for a kiss.

  4. Jerril says:

“Chu” is definitely the sound associated with kissing, in manga and anime. Apparently there’s also some sort of clever pun involving mice, too, but I haven’t got a clue what it is.

  5. eustace says:

As in “mayo chu chu” (mayonnaise kisses) from the chorus of Shingo Mama no Oha Rock!

(warning – contains some James Brown)

I’ve been waiting so long for fembots.

  8. Rezorrand says:

Can’t read the top-left one, but it’s something about keeping stuff in it’s hand.
Top right means it dances while singing.
Lower left is “female like movement with two legs” or something. And last one is “a bit of some happy kissing action” and チュッ means a quick kiss. (ッ “little tsu” makes a double consonant, but when used as a last character in a word it abruptly ends the word).

I for one Welcome our robotic women overlords!

*sob* I knew that there was a woman for me out there somewhere! I n-never gave up hope!
