The Ladybug of Unexpected Utility

ladybug.jpg

This charming ladybug has a memory card reader, flash memory, USB charger, an LED flashlight and a counterfeit money detector.

One imagines an uneasy silence in Project Ladybug‘s coffee-filled conference room. A junior executive stands up, thumps her hand on the table and yells “No! There is no intuitive human interface objective that ‘Ladybird’ may represent! Let’s just put in everything!”

According to the product page, it sports “Duel intellect charging.” A portable walrus-cleaning upgrade kit will be made available by 2010.

I think you’re missing the point of this device. It’s obviously an attempt on the part of the manufacturer to artistically portray the broad biodiversity and niche-seeking verve of the Ladybird’s cladistic family, Coleoptera.

“What can you tell us, sir, of this device’s designer?”

“…He had an inordinate fondness for beetles.”

I want one of these so bad I want to be ordering it now. Actually, I want a half dozen of them. I’ve got at least that many uses for them.
Come to think of it, there’s an entymological metaphor it that as well.

It’s a tool that Batman’s much lamer half-cousin on his uncle’s side of the family would carry.

At first I thought it was a mouse, with all the assorted doo-dads included inside it. Now that would be sensible.

I would luv one of these!!

Though a roach shaped one would definitely have some great entertainment value.

If it came with a bottle opener or possibly a pencil sharpener, I’d consider it.

The MUST HAVE would be for it to be able to detect Radon. I’d buy five or seven if it could do that.
