Stelarc's Walking Head robot spider

walkinghead1.JPG

From the same man who once grew a third ear on his forearm comes a horrifying robotic arthropod. According to Cyprian artist Stelarc's site, the robot scans an area with an ultra-sound sensor. When a human comes into the gallery space, it rears up on all its pincer legs, showing all of the alarming signs of murderous robot insect aggression short of hissing and acid spitting. Why I like it: it looks exactly like one of Gene Simmons' spider killbots from the classic 1983 science fiction film, Runaway.

That's beautiful!

My 4 yr old loves robots and the other day said, "Daddy we need to build a robot to do our chores; we can give it an arm and a brain." His mother asked, "Where are you going to get a brain?" He said, "We can make one." She asks, "What are you going to make it out of?" He responds, "We can make it out of leaves and water." Last night we bought him three rolls of duct tape, stay tuned.

BTW - Thanks Xeni, Look Kittens. I've been quietly chuckling for days.

Shouldn't that be "Cypriot"? "Cyprian" is an archaic word meaning randy or lustful. Of course, he could be both...

Gotta love Simmons.

Wow, four-year-olds read Hofstadter these days. How bout that.

I don't know about making a brain out of leaves and water, but my brain functions quite a bit better in the morning after consuming hot water that leaves have been soaking in.

Airshowfan, it sounds so different when you put it that way.
