iPhone 2.0 firmware features snazzy little remote app

One of the delicious new freebies in the iPhone 2.0 software update: a lovely little app that will turn your iPhone or iPod touch into a remote control for your Apple TV or within iTunes. It works over WiFi and even hoovers up the cover art or preview image of what you want to play. The Shuffle-like Apple remote magnetically attached to the side of my monitor seems so quaint now.

Ok...my wife gave me a Touch for my birthday, but I have no idea how to get these cool little apps. I went to the Apple site but it says that apps are coming soon. http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/appstore/

Is there somewhere else to get apps?

Tsteel, it looks like, right now, the whole App Store and iTunes is down. Wait a few hours and try again. If you have an iPod Touch, though, you'll need to pay for the new firmware.

I'm really pleased that they used Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree as the example album in that image. I saw them tour in SF at the Warfield, and it was breathtaking.

After all, how many concept albums do you run across that are transparently based on the original Wickerman film? (ffs, they were playing the score as a warm-up)

I was psyched about the remote app, but am disappointed now that I see it doesn't seem to work with my movie library.
