BIC Phone is branding coup de grâce
While I find the implicit message of "toss this when you're done" here, I have to admit: a pre-paid phone co-branded with BIC, makers of world famous cheap pens and razors, is sort of brilliant.
The BIC Phone will be available in France as a pre-paid unit from Orange. It does appear you can buy top-up cards. Please do, France!

"cheap pens and razors. . ."
What about the lighters, Joel!?!?! This is practically the only company that makes cigarette lighters of any worth. It is their crowning achievement!
Oh, hey, and me without one at the moment!
Woah, and it's rechargeable.
Niiice.
When will we see the Gillette equivalent with it's ridiculously overpriced top-ups but incredibly smooth five-band system...?
@Andreas: Or the next mobile campaign from a carrier which advertises a phone with six bars of reception.
But what about the terr'ists?
I wonder if it'll gather rust in the corner of the shower the same way their razors do. Just one day after I take the plastic guard off. *sigh*
I want to see BIC make rechargeable lighters. I can get a long life out of a cheap plastic lighter, so long as it's refillable.
Maybe the phones will have a fuel cell that runs on butane, and is rechargeable.
So its a phone from the makers of the two things (pens and lighters)that are most likely to end up going home in someone else's pocket.
I can see it being useful as a back-up phone as it comes completely ready to go.
