Culture of the times. To sell to businessmen, you had to look like, and sound like, a businessman. The days of being able to sell technology because you look and sound like a technologist were far in the future.
Square? Maybe. But on the other hand, wouldn't you _rather_ have a salesman who talks about what the product can actually do for you than about the buzzwords?
