I like the idea, but seeing that these are CD-Case sized shelves I don't think they are so "giant" at all. Before I looked too closely, I thought this really was a giant bookcase-sized LED clock (like 2x2 meters). Now that would be cool.

Garr, I know they are only CD sized, but I couldn't help from making them bigger for the fiction. I saw them, imagined an insomniac tormented by a wall-sized LED clock, and it all followed from there.

Because I definitely couldn't sleep with that. Can't sleep with a visible clock in the room anyway. Not only would I constantly have to check the time. I'd have to keep checking, when the ":" goes dark, if it comes on again half a second later.
