Stylish and elegant TV stand is stylish and elegant

stelegant.jpg

With Sony even the TV stands have names like RHT-G500, as if to suggest there is an RHT-G400, or a stand that does not have the power of G, and so on. It does, however, have a stereo built in, with HDMI passthrough, 3.1-channel surround sound and the standard panoply of inputs and outputs..

The best thing about it is the phrase used to market it. It is "stylish and elegant." Google reports 208,000 results for the exact phrase "stylish and elegant." The top 10 results, in order, are:

1. A garden shed.
2. Wholesale sunglasses.
3. A website about hotels in Zurich.
4. A press release about the website about hotels in Zurich.
5. A luxury bathroom.
6. An inexpensive women's magazine.
7. A PDF version of the press release about the website about hotels in Zurich.
8. A hard drive.
9. Lawn furniture named after acclaimed Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.
10. A Japanese cell phone strap merchant.

I heard somewhere that Sir Howard Stringer, after taking the reins at Sony, launched an audit of products and projects, just as Steve Jobs had at Apple in the late 1990s. Jobs cut all the busy work and laid off the tinkerers within a few months of taking over. Stringer, however, just lost count at 30,000 products.

Update: Commenter Zuzu demands a Venn diagram. Here is the Venn diagram:

So you're saying it's not stylish and elegant?

I'd buy it immediately, if ...

... it had more than 3.1 channels support
... it let me store my DVDs/Blurays vertically (i.e. standing upright). But as soon as you put a DVD player or similar in there ... :(

I nominate the Venn diagram for BBG's counterpart to the Unicorn Chaser.

This makes up for starting a car analogy thread.

If there was an iVenn, I would have used it! I actually googled that in the faint hope you were serious

Though on reflection, the central thing, instead of being the BBG monster, should have been "Goblins riding bulldogs."

I think it is and awkward and ungainly. Stick that in your Venn and chart it.

I am not joking when I say that I had no idea Venn diagrams could be so stylish, or elegant.

I disagree. In the overlap between Stylish and Leathery should be Lovejoy.
