Centipede lamp, inexplicably called "Nymph"

bugs01.jpg

For those that read about the remote-controlled zombie robot and seriously considered it as a tiny, Shriner-like buggy for their perambulations around town, I think I can guess what happened on your side of the screen. First, the flush and thrill of consumerist lust. The credit card is unsheathed. But then you stop for a second. $2600? That's a lot of money. The wife will never approve. She thinks you're selfish.

I have a solution. Buy a little something for the lady of equal cost. Might I suggest a porcelain lamp in the form of a nightmarish, cycloptic centipede?

I love this thing. If you're confused about the name, some kinds of insects go through a nymph phase; basically they look like an adult dragonfly or whatever, but without wings (as opposed to those who hatch fully built from a pupae). So this is actually a pretty literal interpretation.

The problem with this is that when you went to sleep, it was on the table over there, but now when you wake it's on the bedside table...

I'd buy a lamp shaped like this: http://bugs.bio.usyd.edu.au/Entomology/internalAnatomy/imagePages/dragonflyNymph.html

In biology, a nymph is the immature form of some insects, which undergoes incomplete metamorphosis (hemimetabolism) before reaching its adult stage; unlike a typical larva, a nymph's overall form already resembles that of the adult. In addition, while a nymph moults it never enters a pupal stage. Instead, the final moult results in an adult insect.
