Android phones coming to T-Mobile this Fall, says Times
The story is mostly an overview of what's been taken as given, but the Times is quoting "people briefed on [Google's] plans" that an Android-powered phone — probably the HTC Dream — will indeed be launching on T-Mobile as soon as next month.
I have high hopes for Android. Perhaps too high. But the promise of a truly open mobile operating system, backed by a company unafraid of using open industry data standards and with a knack for usability...well, it's good for everyone. Apple may have beat the rest of the mobile industry when it comes to an interface, but the best thing that could happen to everyone, even iPhone users, is if Android becomes a real force in the market. Plus Linux could use a consumer market win.

That's the Android logo? But..but..that's a robot, not an android!
Still waiting for someone to implement ZRTP voice encryption (i.e. Zfone) on Android.
Everyone's been saying its coming out in September, but the FCC hasn't gotten the phone for certification. Until that happens, it isn't happening.
T-Mobile? I thought the whole idea behind Android was to be "open" and not carrier specific? I hope they sell the devices not SIM locked.
"Apple’s iPhone has shaken the cellphone industry, partly because of its design, but mostly because AT&T and Apple have allowed owners to download any number of applications to their phones. That freedom to individualize a phone’s functions has helped increase the popularity of the iPhone."
Gosh - so exactly like almost every other phone for the last five years, except in a more limited, crippled and expensive way.
@ZULU: That's actually on my to-do list! Once I get my hands on a phone, I'm gonna be cranking that out.
Wheeeeeeeee!
Ok, seriously - do I want this phone? I have an Eten Glofiish X600 with a 4gb MicroSD card. I have TomTom on it with the built in GPS.
I'd love to get another phone with a "real" keyboard and a VGA screen this time, obviously 3G is a huge plus as well.
I need to have Exchange server support as well for my office.
What sort of apps are going to be on this phone? I love the huge amount of Windows Mobile software out there, hell, I'd almost rather get this HTC phone and put WinMo on it if it was possible!
@3: Who says the US will be the first market? Regarding all the other phone, I would even say it is highly unlikely.
Perfect time for the Android project. You can get T-mobile Unlimited Sim cards now for just $55 a month.
That is unlimited voice and data with no credit check or deposit requirements.
