Mobiado's Lucido puts the candybar back in candybar phones

mobiado12312412.jpgMobiado's Lucido is a luxury phone that looks like something Sony Ericsson would have made 10 years ago, if Sony Ericsson had existed back then. It even plays MP3 files!

Only 200 of the CNC-milled aluminum handsets will be made, each having 3G internet, tri-band GSM radios, 2 megapixel cameras, push-to-talk, Bluetooth and a QVGA display.

Forced scarcity shouldn't make this a desirable product. Ack, collectible electronics defeats the number one purpose:

Cell phones are tools first and foremost, and should rely on usability.

That's true, but still, there is good design out there.

I just don't get why it has to be a fat clone of Sony Ericsson's rack. These people are supposed to stay ahead of the big boys, even the stylish ones. Aren't they?

Though they have to be respected for not gluing swarovski crystals to it. The temptation must be hard to resits.

I think the machined aluminum case and sapphire screen and (presumably) unlocked nature of the phone makes it a pretty good tool. If the sound, reception quality, and user interface are good, it would be an excellent purchase for a wealthy person looking for a solid phone. If not, it's utter junk.

Surround sound through stereo speakers

CNC machined body? Could be useful for people who need to use their phones as field-expedient truncheons.

"...looks like something Sony Ericsson would have made 10 years ago, if Sony Ericsson had existed back then." Er, yes, Ericsson were making phones 10 years ago. And 110 years ago.
