Noon Logan Solar laptop bag

The Noon Logan Solar Laptop Bag does the usual: slurps up light on the papillae of its flexible exterior solar panel to charge an internal power bank, which can then be used to electrically infuse your flagging gadgets. Unlike most of the alternative bags, though, it actually looks rather nice — a fine compromise for the green fashionista. It's also more affordable than most, although will still cost more than an infant's pineal gland: $452 all told. And god knows whether or not a laptop bag with a visible electronic element would earn you a deep rooting by the TSA next time through customs.

i take it this must be an updated version of the "handsome leather bag" cory posted about a year ago. The comments under that post were a riot.

Where are you getting your infant pineal glands? I could get you a much better deal than that.

I read the comments in the thread above, ignoring the leather haters and eco-yaktivists, a very valid point is made that the solar panel faces inward while carrying it. That means I would actually have to go out of my way to set it in the sun to charge it. Not good enough for a $462 bag if you ask me.

Good luck trying to get this past the TSA goons.

I can't help but think there are a couple of dozen Logan's Run jokes to be made here.

it looks to me as if the bag can be carried with the solar panel on either side. The picture on the product page shows a gentleman wearing it with the panel out.

What's the sun tolerance for solar panels? Could I leave this in my window and not have it die under the oppressive Las Vegas sun? (I know I'd have to regularly condition the leather, but I do that with all my cow hide things, even belts)

Any word on whether this will actually be able to charge a laptop? How heavy will it be (between the solar panels and the "internal power bank")?

It also looks to me like the solar panels will be facing your back when you carry it. Shouldn't the solar panels be facing, you know, the sun?

Solar panels should be fine. Unfortunately, they're not going to provide much power. Maybe enough to boost your cell phone or iPod a bit, but not enough to be practical. I've assembled something similar with a Maxpedition Jumbo pack, two foldable 12 W panels and an Eee PC 901. It works ok, but it takes a lot of panel to power even that super-efficient laptop.

Is it just me? I don't think I'm going to leave my laptop laying around in plain sight outside, in a car, or near a window! That thing screams "Steal this laptop!"

Pineal glands? Check eBay. They've got some good Buy It Now offers.

I have one of these bags and have taken through airport security several times without a problem.

I got a black "Sawyer" a few days ago. It's doing a pretty decent job of keeping my phone and eeepc charged. I cycle to work so it gets plenty of light :)
