Rainbow Hex Keys

RainbowAllen.jpg If PBTools' colorful set of metric hex keys was less that $50, I would so be ready to assemble European flatpack furniture in style. But.... $50? Whoa.

Multi-purpose. They can also be used to summon a Unicorn to the work site.

Avenging or non-avenging.

It could matter if you're a mime.

$50 dollars is cheap!
Do you think its easy to attain pure unicorn flatulence in sufficient quantities for powder coating?

Painted gaming miniatures don't cost /that/ much.

These aren't the mild steel crap you get for a buck down at Big Lots... Good tools cost a lot more than you'd expect. But yeah, $50 seems steep.

If they are made in Switerland then why is the price surprising? $50, ok, but you get EIGHT wrenches. at under $7 each (remembering where they are made) is sounds reasonable. Bargain, no, but take your ass to Sears (or Harbor Freight) if you don't get it.

The problem is not the price; the problem is that they are not in order of wavelength. Red should be at one end, violet at the other.

A tool being made in Switzerland doesn't immediately make it worth more or less than a tool made in the USA. Quality makes it worth more. How much is up to the purchaser. Sears actually has excellent tools for the price. Nowhere near the crap that is Harbor Freight, price or quality wise. (For example, the PB 10-piece rainbow set is $29.77, the Craftsman 11-piece black set is $11.99, the Harbor Freight 17-piece set? $2.99. Woof.)

There is no problem with chromatic sequence. Ever hear of a color wheel?

Red being the big ring on the bottom is only the standard among fisher price toys.

FWIW The colour order bugs me as well.

They would be really special if they also had the RGB hex codes for the colors inscribed on them.

the time saved in reaching for the correct key makes it worth it.

I agree on the color order. I think my friend Roy G. Biv might as well.

I'm with Takuan. Totally worth it if they're also quality. I'm gettin' a set.

and having the smallest white makes it findable when you drop it

Overpriced, but handy. Instead of asking someone to hand me the wrench by size, waiting around while they figure out which is which, you could just ask for the blue one. Not bad.

The cost difference here is for the fabulousness tax. Good to see that someone is pandering to the same sex marriage fixer upper.

I'm not paying no $50 dollars for some fancy hex wrenches, but I will so repaint my existing set for quicker differentiation. Thanks for the tip, overpaid Swiss designers!

Over in the old country, PB tools are recognised as the cream of the crop in wrenches and screwdrivers. They really are renowned for their quality. Likely the last set of hex keys you'll own, etc.

Translation: I'd like to own this, but it's a bit too expensive.

They also have drill bits and other tools in different colours.

Also, if you like the rainbow coloured ones, take a look at the 23.72 carat gold finish.

I think that the comments on this page may have influenced something. It seems the price on the page now is only $29.95! Go team BoingBoing! driving prices to the ground.
