There is that issue with Apple, often putting form ahead of function, as it did when it created the sloping shape of the Macbook Air, which did nothing to reduce the maximum thickness of the computer but did take away room the engineers could have used for bigger harddrives, a second USB port, an expansion slot and so forth.
The Macbook Pro's are not immune to form over function, either, as one can see by the centering of the trackpad. On practical computers, the trackpad is centered to the F and J keys so your the track pad is centered to where your hands rest on the computer. Not so with the Macbook, where the track pad is centered not for usefulness but to look optically centered on the pretty laptop.
And then there is the keyboard on the MBP 17", pushed all the way next to the screen, so you'll never be able to conveniently type on the thing without having to reach across the laptop.
I like Macs, but they also drive me crazy with missed opportunities for functionality.
I don't think it'd be as thin as an air. They need to keep a DVD optical drive in there, which is one if the biggest dictates of thickness.
Apparently, size does matter!
(Damn!)
