Peek online store open for business

Peek, the mail-only handheld we recently reviewed, is now on sale at the official website, in advance of Sept. 15′s rollout to Target stores.

   The store’s actually been up for a while. I ordered mine last week, and it arrived yesterday. I’ve been playing around with it. So far — it’s exactly what I was led to expect based on the reviews. It does email. That’s it. A few UI quirks, like the space bar that’s not quite as firm as the other keys, and I could do with physical keys for a few functions — the usual perils of early adoption.

   The lack of physical keys for functions is an irritant. I also don’t like the way if you hit delete too quickly, it doesn’t delete anything. I know why — it’s to stop you inadvertantly deleting too much — but my volume of spam is so great that I just can’t wait a second or two for the command to register.
