Ever thought of trying to dismantle one of Apple's industrial-looking metal keyboards? Don't.

I don't own that much Apple stuff, but the pieces I do, whenever I've thought about trying to take them apart... I already had a warning in my head: "don't".

I always figured somebody else will try and it will show up on some gadget blog. :)

sorry for second post.

yeah... on an apple product, if you don't see screws, don't try it. For that matter even if you do see screws it's probably not a good idea without a very detailed and photographed DIY guide.

If it's gotten dirty enough that you need to take it apart to clean it, couldn't you just put it in the dishwasher or use some other kind of liquid cleaning?

As long as you dry it out well before plugging it back in you shouldn't have any problems.

also, #3: ipods are an exception to the rule. With a bit of force and a credit card you can open an ipod with no scratches pretty easily. I did it on the bus once to prove it to someone.

On almost any expensive product, if you don't see screws, don't try it unless it's already a brick.

As an aside: in general, if you're spending a bunch of money, try to buy something put together with screws. The more visible fasteners, the better. ;)

man, I took apart my macbook once to put one of these in (http://icolours.ca/) and that shit never came back together right. pretty much 3/4 of the screws in the back plastic housing fell or broke off and it's being held together by one screw out of 4 in the hinges.

it's held up pretty well for the last two years though.
