dude, food processors are the shit. i have several recipes that just work better when using this and turn out horrible when trying to replicate in a blender. at $100, how can you not own one?
Bought the food processor. I’ve been wanting one for so long. I admit I’m no iron chef, but a food processor is good for so many things.
Joel, every modern kitchen has a food processor. Now: go get yours!
And Cuisinart makes nice food processors. At least mine, which is 20 years old or so, is a total beast and runs quietly while cranking out enough torque to shred, dice, or mince just about anything.
Pounds of gazpacho are mine in mere minutes. (though they should marinate for a while to even out the flavor..)
My wife’s Guacamole has never been better.
I say go for it.
I love my food processor for 2 things: Quickly chopping lots of vegetables for things like meatloaf, and pastry dough. That’s right. Pastry dough. As long as your butter is VERY cold, a couple pulses will combine your butter and dry ingredients into the ideal pea-sized mix in much less time than pastry knives.
Not having much kitchen space, I own a mini-Cuisinart food processor. (2 cups). It only cost $20, and I’ve never found it lacking in power. Perfect anytime you need something finely chopped, and it takes up almost no room in the dishwasher afterwords.
Oh kismet, they just had a food processor on woot.
Food processors are great for (1) salsa and other sauces, (2) pastry and bread dough, (3) shredding cheese (if you have the special disk) and (4) slicing hard vegetables and fruits thinly (if you have the special disk) for things like tarts and those layered potato dishes.
I’ve obviously been beaten to the punch multiple times over, but I’m too stubborn to not at least try to post this:
“I’ve always presumed they were for people who don’t know how to use a knife”
Could you enlighten us as to your secret techniques for making hummus, guacamole, or salsa with a knife?
