Could you make a better fake rock speaker than Klipsch?
I'm not sure how new the Klipsch AWR-650-SM weatherproof speaker may be — certainly outdoor speakers that look like rocks aren't a new idea — but looking it, in its Flintstones formation, makes me wonder: how hard is it to make a rock speaker that doesn't have such apparent holes? Obviously you don't want to muffle the sound, but it would be much more classy (if that's a term that's possible to use in proximity to fake rocks) if you couldn't make it out at all.

It's tough to have these problems. :\
Do they have to stand out alone like that, or would foliage in front of them or integration into landscaping ruin some sort of audio properties we don't know about?
It shouldn't be hard at all, there are plenty of speakers that have cloth that completely hide their "holes". its sort of absurd that they would essentially highlight the speakers like they did.
Speaking as someone who has done a bit of stage-set painting: Appropriate coloring -- granite and moss kinds of patterns -- could break up the obvious outlines of the speaker circle. Some texturing -- again, in patterns that cross over that line -- might also help.
It might be less obvious in shade, for that matter.
(sigh)...
that looks like a potato sack that thinks it's a speaker.
OMG is Purple from Day of the Tentacle!
You could just use flat panel speaker technology (example - http://www.nxtsound.com/ ) to make an entire surface of the rock into speaker. This tech has been around for years.
I think they should just add "noise" around the edge of the hole area, by drilling extra holes. Remove the sharp contrast, no other components needed.
Start by not making it magenta-colored?

Hiding speakers is kinda lame, anyway; is the idea here that the music is coming from nowhere and everywhere, that the Almighty Herself is DJing for you and whoever you're trying to mack on in the great outdoors? Geez, why not put up some Star Trek-style styrofoam boulders while you're at it, get your pon farr on.
That looks like fecal matter from Ben Grimm
Oh My Gosh LATENTE I need to high five you for that reference.
I could just see a concert at Stonehenge or a cave, with a bunch of those on either side of a rocky stage. Some kinda Norse, viking metal show perhaps?

Build the case with it's holes as normal, paint it to look as close to a rock as possible (ignoring the holes). Stick the cloth over said holes, add fake moss over the top of these (which shouldn't muffle the sound too much) and the surrounding area. Obviously make it uneven so it's not so damn obvious. Add a bit of extra moss to various other parts, then add bird poo for good measure.
