Waterproof mouse receiver with GPS

br355.jpgGlobalSat's BR-355 is a waterproof GPS mouse receiver, accurate to 5 meters and unusually small. It boots in under 45 seconds, according to the spec sheet, and has USB or RS232 connections, a built-in antenna, and blinkenlights to indicate how good its fix is. Check out the discussion at MP3car: "DAMN!!!! DAMN!!! DDAAAAUUUUUUMMMMMM!!!!!"

They're $50 at Amazon.

Argh, it's not a mouse and it's not wireless either. Calling these things 'mouse receivers' just because they look a bit like 'mouse controllers' is just asking for confusion. I was imagining people running around their backyard to move their 'computer cursor'around their 'digital desktop'.

LUC beat me too it. Not only does the article never mention wireless, but the wire is visible in the picture. In fact the article specifically mentions plugging the thing in.

Hmmm,

I wonder how small it is inside that casing?

I'm keeping an eye on USB GPS stuff now that they're being modded into netbooks.

Wow. I bought one of these last year for $35! I never knew it was waterproof.

Regardless, it's been great. Used it in Japan earlier this year with some custom GPS maps.

I've been using the older BU-353 model for a couple of years. It boots / acquires signal lock as rapidly as they claim (if not faster).

It has served me well for war driving and in car navigation.

Highly recommended.

What kind of mice does this device receive?

Wait nevermind, I re-read it. Waterproof mice, obviously.

Its a serial Mouse. The website says so. As if that is the common usage for those terms. Its difficult to find out that it is even USB. What is this, 1989?

What are they intending it to be connected to? A laptop? A visual GPS display?
