SkyV: Full-Motion video skylights from the Sky Factory

The last time we talked to the Sky Factory people we told them they should come out with a line of virtual skylights that were animated. They have done this very thing.

The SkyV hangs LCD HDTVs into ceilings and projects virtual skies across all of the units. Prices aren’t yet announced, but I’m sure they won’t be cheap. Still, neato. You could have rainbow tropical skies during the day, swirling demonic hellscapes at night. (The full Johnson-Brownlee spectrum.)

Is that John Malkovich narrating their advert?

I like the sound of that. “Johnson Brownlee Spectrum”. Disturbingly familiar.

Now the sky really can be the color of television tuned to a dead channel.

I can’t imagine what this costs…but I suspect I could build one for my ceiling using a Mac Mini and a plasma for under $1000. I actually think it might be cheaper than actually installing a skylight in my ceiling.

@Anon#3: Sadly, modern televisions just go blue (or black) when there’s no signal. I just realized that means there’s a generation growing up now that might not get the visual image that Gibson meant.
