Datamancer is selling his incredible “Archbishop” hand-made PC on eBay. Bidding starts at $7,000.

This auction is for the one-of-a-kind “Archbishop” Gothic PC built by the popular steampunk fabricator and artist, Richard R. Nagy a.k.a “Datamancer” of www.datamancer.net, whose work has been featured on Newsweek, the N.Y. Times, the Wall Street Journal, Boston Globe, ForbesLife, The Robb Report, IEEE Spectrum and many other publications.

The Archbishop is a full, 4-piece desktop combo. Included is the intricately hand-crafted wood-and-stained-glass PC case which houses a mid-level gaming PC with Athlon dual-core processor, a 20″ LG LCD built into a gothic arch with stained glass doors, a polished brass keyboard with wooden faceplate, cloth cord, quatrefoil design, and genuine antique typewriter keys, and lastly, a Wacom drawing tablet (with both pen and mouse) that is hidden within a gorgeous antique book with a hidden compartment for peripherals.

It’s the perfect communications nerve center for The Bishop:

Having seen it in person, it’s great work from Doc as usual. Detailing is fantastic and the woodworking is great. It’s a little noisy for me (several 120mm fans) but that’s probably because the specs aren’t bad and it’s going to put out some heat. However, at 7 grand, it’s a steal, that’s one fifth of the price during the steampunk show.

Throw some skulls on that thing and whammo, warhammer 40k computer.

Alas, not quite my style; that’s not the cultural referant I’d prefer to display. But as a piece of functional art the starting price is indeed a steal, and I really hope it gets bid up — he deserves it.

Ahh, I do think it’s worth noting that the $7,000 represents “reserve not met.” So it’s likely that he’s not willing to sell it for that.

I’ve also seen it in person, and I can testify that it is equally awesome in the flesh as it is in this picture. If my two year-old wasn’t virtually certain to destroy it, I’d consider it.

Thanks for the post, Rob, and thank you for the kind comments, everyone.

The case does have a few extra fans but they are most likely overkill and can probably be disabled. I just wasn’t sure how much heat a wooden case would retain during sustained use so I erred on the side of caution.

There is a reserve but it isn’t ludicrously high. The piece was optimistically overpriced during the Hamptons show (it was the Hamptons, after all, but I realistically only expect maybe half of that on ebay.

    Thanks again, everyone!
