The MintPad: a Post-It sized DAP with built-in tablet

mintpad_main.jpg

The Mintpad has all the markings of a Yanko: it is tiny and beautiful and more wishful than practical. Essentially, the Mintpad is a tiny Post-It note sized Wacom with built-in WiFi that will let you send full color notes to any other Mintpad owners… all five of them.

It’s essentially a dedicated platform for the Nintendo DS’s Pictochat, which is a good idea… just don’t expect to get a lot of use out of that primary function. Luckily, the MintPad does more than just that: it’s also a portable media player, camera and web browser, with 4GB of internal memory.

It all adds up to a rather unique little DAP that sets itself apart from the competition with a single unique function that will only go unappreciated because the community it depends upon will likely not be there. It’s on sale now in Korea for $156.

If anything the price is right.

If web-browsing is as good as it looks, and if I can really go to any website (vs. just MintPad’s; that’s a little unclear to me), I’d love this as my SqueezeBox remote.

what’s a DAP? Less alphabet, more soup, please.

Mein Gott, it’s the old Saturday Night Live “Macintosh Post-It Notes” commercial — a parody of the Newton — come to life!

I hope it boots up more quickly than the SNL version.

So you can’t save the notes on the internal memory and then beam or wire it to your PC at some later date? I’d think this would be a killer replacement for the little memo pad I carry around in my pocket to jot down reminders.

@3 DAP stands for Digital Audio Player, it’s a common TLA.

I am the audience for this. I may be an audience of one, but I’m it. I have been asking for years for someone to make me a tiny little digital notepad that saved one or two pages of notes as ink – that’s it – no need for handwriting recognition or a need to save it anywhere else. This is because I spend all day making one or two lines of notes on paper which are valuable for about ten minutes and then can be discarded, and it’s pretty wasteful. (And no, I can’t take notes on the computer, because I’m doing the things I’m taking notes ABOUT on that computer, see.)

Who would I have to kill or bribe, or what strings could I possibly pull, as an American consumer, to get my hands on this product in the fifteen minutes before it evaporates? Because I agree with your assessment about its likeliness to succeed, alas.

@7, you are not alone. That’s everything I’ve ever wanted in my pocket, and nothing I don’t

This looks freeking incredible. Did everyone see the features page? http://product.mintpass.co.kr/p_mp100_func.asp

Please please please post again if it ever comes out in a form that those of us on the far side of the world can buy.

I gotta say, this looks incredible.

I’d much rather have something like this than, say, a netbook.

    iPod touch?

It has all the features of this, except with a bigger screen, and is a bit more expensive.
