Report: Allchin tried to stop Microsoft Vista-Certifying computers that couldn't run it properly
According to court documents, Microsoft not only knew that it was lying when it issued "Vista Capable" certification to computers with puny Intel 915 chipsets that had no such capability, but was thanked for it directly by Intel CEO Paul Ottelini.
Imagine being someone who mattered at Microsoft having to listen to fellow executive Jim Allchin go on and on and on:
"We are going to be misleading customers with the Capable program. OEMs (computer makers) will say a machine is Capable and customers will believe that it will run all the core Vista features. The fact that aero won't be there EVER for many of these machines is misleading to customers. ...We need to meet on this. Please set this up ASAP. We need something simpler in my view. I know we don't want to hurt the OEMS, but end-customers must be the top priority. We must avoid confusion. It is wrong for customers. And we probably will have to change your current plans.........."
Allchin retired the day Vista was released.

David, I'm sure you're just being silly and don't really believe that all 95,000 Microsoft employees are bad people. Still, your comment appears a tad ignorant.

2. Convince all the employees with ethics to resign/retire

Of course, using the dollar sign instead of an 'S' when using the abbreviation of 'Microsoft' makes you look both edgy and cool. Because secretly, unlike other multinational computer company, Microsoft care about making money. WHO KNEW?
But anyway, computer hardware manufacturers such as Intel have been growing complacent over the years, getting away with shipping rubbish parts since the operating system they were designed for was about half a decade old. If it wasn't for AMD, that probably would've been the case for their processors as well. (It was, until core 2 duo.)
Quick, let's defend Microsoft... somehow... er... they only wanted to make money! Forgive them!

If I had a tech company I would want people like Allchin working for me. Dependable people who are wiling to stand up for their opinions are too few and far between in all walks of life.
@Blip: Microsoft were wrong to let this happen, leaving such a large gap between OSs, but really whatever [probably overblown] issues anybody has against it, it isn't half as bad if you have a machine which can run it effectively.
