My new desktop: 1970 Nissan 270X Concept
The 270X was a stunning project car from Nissan, combining the lean, lupine look of the time with the practicality of a Paceresque hatchback. It's an aggressive style — aggressively ugly, even — but there's nothing about it I don't like, right down to the redline Bridgestone tires.
Although built in 1970 for the 17th Tokyo Auto Show, it is still branded a Nissan, not a Datsun. That brand existed in the U.S. until 1983-1984 until the company underwent a transition that was rumored to have cost hundreds of millions of dollars in signage, advertising, and sales lost to confusion.

Hmm... seems to have been inspired by the Lotus Europa. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Europa
Just the right shade of brown for an Ubuntu desktop.
What ever happened to cars that looked like they were about to take off even when standing still? I know gas efficiency has affected streamlining design, and mass production means fewer and simpler curves, but I really want my starship, darn it.
Looks like the love child of a C4 Corvette and a honda CR-X
Many of the concept landspeeder designs for Star Wars (both eras) are said to be based off LeMans style cars. Lucas has a penchant for euro-racing (racing in general, actually).
Cinemajay- Offhand I can't think of a George Lucas film without a car chase (of one sort or another). (Well, post student work, at least.)
How 'bout that solid glass hatchback? And those fender-mounted mirrors? Yikes.
Looks aerodynamic, but it would actually be more aerodynamic in reverse.
Reminds me of the 1969 Pink Panther car (although I think that was an Oldsmobile).
Looks like it probably evolved into the Silvia S10

I think I'm more of a fan of the 1970 126x Concept.
Sure it doesn't have the solid glass hatchback that does look all kind of awesome, but it does have a bonnet that looks like it might start sliding open (split in the middle) to reveal some kind of space/laser blaster to take out any rival racers in the alternate 1973 version of 1997.
