Joel reviews the Selk Bag, impersonates Gumby (video)
Halloo! Xeni here sneaking in a post on Boing Boing Gadgets! This week, Boing Boing tv is debuting regular product reviews produced with Joel and the crew, and we'll blog 'em here on Gadgets first. What better way to kick the series off than a lulz-filled analysis of the Lippi Selk Bag, a sleeping bag with arms and legs that makes our Joel look like a bespectacled Gumby? The funky-chunky "sleepwear system" ranges in price from $169 to $399. I imagine they'd really come in handy at one of those outdoor all-nighter raves, unless you get lucky -- interpersonal intra-bag intercourse might be logistically difficult in these. Here is a direct MP4 link, if you prefer a downloadable video to the Flash embed above.

Wow... I mean this in the most endearing way possible: That is one of the worst product reviews I have ever seen. It was hilarious. I loved it. Keep with the no script/no plan/no coherence thing, it suits you well. Like a big green gumby suit.

I don't know why, but this screams homeless to me

this can't be light or compact enough for anything more than car camping or a one-nighter.
@2 no homeless person could ever afford one of these

I love this idea but what a shame that the creators of this all-in-one sleeping bag didn't include a rear zip to fully expose one's arse: the limited front opening doesn't allow access for women to use the toilet, and removing the entire bag/suit to do so defeats the purpose of it, no?
Not fair. Hmph.

Also I used to have a girlfriend that could errm, hike up her front meat and pee standing up. Apparently the trick is to "spread the curtains" and have the urithera at a 90 degree angle.

What are the implications of the use of this bag at LAN parties? Is this the first step towards a universal environment suit?
Looks like it might be hard to zip up the second hand once you've got one zipped. Like trying to pick up a penny with a baseball bat.
Please, please don't pee in that thing. How gross. You'd probably be hard pressed to find a way to clean it too.

If it costs more than $109, it's a rip-off.

Try www.lippioutdoor.com for where to buy this thing state-side (found it for $149 on Amazon).
Nice gumby bit :)
Looks like this thing would be very comfortable to sleep in as opposed to the coffin-like mummy bag - and much more fun! Could wear it around the house too, my wife would love it.

Apart from the peeing problem, I want one of those things for my cold New England house. I'm right now wearing three layers of performance fleece and down booties. Oil heat is expensive.

You could also try the German army sleeping bag. I'm not sure I'd use this camping, but I'd have one for hanging round the house and saving money with the heat off.

Is this Joel's second trifecta (same post on BB, BBG, and BBTV)? I think now the undisputed champion with the addition of the same post on BBO.

For some reason I just love this bag. Even though it would be inconvenient to pee, etc., and it looks like maybe the fit is a little tight on Joel (I would probably want the XXL size, because, let's face it, lingerie it ain't so you might as well be comfortable). Despite the drawbacks, it's just something that I would want to have around the house or in the car...
