Reiser appeals

reme.jpgAfter leading authorities to his wife's body, apologizing for killing her, agreeing to a 15-to-life term in prison, waiving his right to appeal, declaring that he knew what he was doing and had effective legal representation, Hans Reiser now claims that he thought the deal was for just three years — in his recently-filed appeal.

Reiser's handwritten request is the latest baffling move from the brilliant programmer, whose file system graces many Linux-based computers to this day.

In it, Wired reports, he suggests that his lawyer is delusional.

Yowch, that handwritten note is just sheer crazy.

That's not handwritten.

definitely not handwritten. that's clearly a "handwritten" font.

hmm, did the creator of the image use alternating caps to make it seem more crazy, or to somewhat hide that the characters are exact copies?

rm is command to delete files/folders, so hes essentially wants to get rid of the conviction, darkness, his lawyer, and finally himself.

still, it's a funny image. in a black humour kind of way.

Before the psychoanalysis of Rob's Photoshopped oeuvre goes any further, this is Reiser's genuine appellate motion.

Umm... I don't think the note's real; it's just BB humor.

I just hope they let him work on filesystems in prison. He could be like the sociopath who wrote all that stuff for the Britannica - a criminal who actually pays his rent to society.

The ideas behind ReiserFS really are worth pursuing; instead of layering databases on top of filesystems built to obsolete paradigms, just make the filesystem outperform any database for the win.

Some times I'm confused at what people take seriously.

Cue Foghorn Leghorn: "That's a joke... I say, that's a joke, son."

There clearly seems to be something not quite right up there in Reiser's brain (not referring to the joke image above). One presumes that a seroius hacker such as himself would recognize the difference between 3 and 15.
