Houdini key-ring lets you break out (or in) to your car

houdinitools.jpg

Plunge your car off a bridge and you’ll figure out quick enough that those electrical windows don’t work in the drink. The Houdini Automotive Escape Tool is a key-ring sized gadget that features an LED light, a spring-loaded glass punch, a seatbelt cutter and a safety whistle. As small as it is, it seems like a good bet for $24.95, even if most of its features will hopefully never be used. An even better bet for professional radio jackers, though: finally, you can leave that crowbar at home!

Mythbusters, everyone’s favorite killjoys, showed a ways back that the easiest way to get out of a sinking car is calmly wait for the pressure to equalize.. then just open the door.

Breaking the window is not only hard, but will allow a torrent of water in all at once which makes it harder to stay oriented.

Not that it makes gadgets like this worthless.. there’s quite a number of scary stories you could make up for dry land that would encourage one to have an easy way to break out a window. A seat belt cutter can be pretty useful too.

I don’t know if it was before or after Mythbusters but Top Gear showed that waiting for the pressure to equalise might not always be such a good idea.
