The VideoMan creates public performance art, is wailed upon

videoman.jpg>Meet the VideoMan: a large rig consiting of a video camera, projector, large portable battery pack, amplifiers, power inverters, sirens, hell, you name it... all strapped to what appears to be the most punchable jerk in the world. They've definitely identified their market: it's meant to create public performance art, which is usually shorthand for "be an asshole."

I'm only being cynical. I actually know some artists who could do some great stuff with a rig like this. But there's just something about the model they chose to demonstrate the rig in the product shot... something about him that cries out in a slobbery nebbish whine: "Hello! You over there! Won't you come and push my face in until it pops out my sphincter?"

Then again, I suppose that sort of personality type well fits with Neal Stephenson's vision of the Lagos-style cyber gargoyle. Who else would wear such a thing?
