The SimpleTech Signature 500GB HDD is sleek and tiny

reviewsimpletech-003.jpg

Devin Coldewey over at Crunchgear has reviewed the SimpleTech Signature 500GB external hard drive, which is an unremarkable piece of kit except for the fact that it is just adorably tiny. Devin quite likes it:

The styling is very understated and attractive; it has a smooth, velvety surface not unlike that of a Razer mouse, and its torpedo-like profile has no major logos or flourishes. There are two little indentations near the front, which beg to be grasped, although I don’t know who would want to carry it with a pincer grip like that. The bottom has little rubber ridges so it doesn’t slide – it was rock solid at a 45 degree angle.

Looks like a USB coffee warmer to me.

It is for all those reasons (minus the adorable pincerable divots) that I enjoy my LaCie external. If it was larger, it’s Kubrickian black glass case would have inspired people to bow before it.

my dad bought one of these for around 50 some dollars. tho the best buy dude tried to get him to purchace a western digital 5oo that was 90 bucks saying the simpletech was new and tho he hadent heard of any problems with them.. the western was definatly better. also the disk thingie on top is a one touch backup button, and thats all my dad really wanted to do with the thing in the first place. no problems so far, is working great. pretty blue lights around the ring also.

I’m sorry, but I have to:

i bought one of these in 250gig capacity about 6 months ago, i got 3 different ones from best buy within the 30 day warranty and im on my 1st RMA from smpletech to replace it. all of them died of head crashes including the RMA one three days ago. they suck.

It’s the smartest idea yet. All the other ones have about 100GB and this one has 500GB it is small so it would fit in alot of places making it handy. I want one besause everything else is so bulky that you have no room for anything else or mabe just a few things but this is smaller so more would fit there. And it holds a lot.
