Kitchy mixer has note-perfect name

For any serious DJ this product, which runs two minijack inputs into a simple crossfader and outputs a single stereo stream, is far too elementary to be off any real use. And it’s being sold by Urban Outfitters, a scurrilous retail operation that steals from indie designers, which is reason enough not to buy it for $30.

But it does sort of have the perfect name: it’s called the “Mix Tape”.

    Sure, it’s not great for a ‘serious DJ’, but it’s perfect for mixing between two mp3 players at a party.

    I have been looking for something like this, I would like to do some Punk/Hardcore/Indie sets at the bar my friend works at.

    I have been thinking a mix of either one of the Numark portables w/the USB out and my mp3 player.

    Preferrably something I can throw in a bag, or into the crate on my bike, with a stack of 7″ ers.

    Anyone have any good suggestions for a decent small portable mixer? Preferably something with a channel or 2 per side with a cue preview function.

    I remember seeing a couple around the net, but I can’t find them anymore =/

    @Agit,

    Other than something like this (or this itself) you might just be SOL if you want something with a cross fader. For punk/hardcore/indie, its not like you are going to be doing beat matching or any of the other things DJs do so you could just get any old cheapo 4 channel or two stereo pair mixer and hook up the turntable and mp3 player and just go song to song. No cue up or cross fade but for that kind of music I doubt it will matter.

    Tapco (Mackie’s budget line) and Berrhinger (universal euro thief xerox machine) offer cheap and small four channel mixers. Once the knobs start falling off and you get some good crackle in the channels it will be punkrawk indeed.

    Thanks for the input, I appreciate the info.

    I’m probably going grab one of these when I have 30$ extra to spend.
