foudroyante, Definition

Sayeth Professional Watches:

A foudroyante uses a small dial that is marked 0-8. The hand on the dial completes a sweep every second which is an elapsed time of 1/8th of second for each number.

Very clever pedant trap.

If it was marked 0-8, each increment would indicate 1/9th of a second. It looks as if it's marked 0-7, which makes sense.

That's mechanical right? Big whoop if it's quartz/electronic, but I love me some mechanical 'complications'.

@WURP Technically it is marked 0-8, with the 8 representing the zero and the eight. Does that make sense? When the hand is pointing at the 8 and not moving it represents zero.

@GADGETOPHILE -- definitely a mechanical. That is what makes it so beautiful!
