Stanley Kubrick's external hard drive
I love Neil Poulton's design for LaCie's Hard Disk MAX, a USB hard drive thingumajig. Desktop PCs should be this gorgeous.
It has two terabyte drives for double the capacity or RAID, includes a powered USB 2.0 hub, and comes with a free year of internet-based backup storage.

I really don't want something that whenever I shut my computer down, it demands "What are you doing?"
Don't you mean Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke's external hard drive?
Except for the logo...
Rob, I've got one of Lacie's design HD (I.e. the LEGO Brick).
Beautiful. But, boy, it's a friggin' lawn mower! It makes my desk vibrate with low frequencies... It only has one drive. I wonder what could this coffin do...
INACCURATE! Not 1:4:9
Yeah, the logo totally spoils it
My god… it’s full of porn stars!
I have the one HD version of this (same design, just half as tall, and no USB hub functionality.)
It used to be kind of noisy, but I put it on its side, on top of an empty DVD case, and most of the vibration noise has gone away.
My main complaint about it is the blue LED. It looks cool and all, but since my computer (and, hence, that drive) is in my bedroom, and since I usually leavy my computer on overnight doing some "processing" and "internet file transfers", that blue LED just illuminates my room to the point where I can feel it blinking even with my eyelids shut.
That's still a minor complaint, though, as it otherwise performs fairly well. I can't wait to get a USB3 external drive, though.
@7 Deejayqueue: well played!
yes put this box on its side too. Put it in your bedroom. No lights to distract you.

Goes well with this printer?
@7 Deejayqueue: Brilliant!
#8: There's always the traditional solution to an annoying light: Black electrician's tape...
Did they really not let you configure the glow on/off/activity/free-space? That's a pity. Personally I like the "hover-field" lighting effect, but I agree that it's a problem for those whose electronics live in a bedroom.
I really do need to buy a networked RAID box at some point. Partly as central backup and mass storage, and partly just because the 20-year-old me would have been completely blown away by the idea of having a terabyte of storage sitting on his desk.
@deejayqueue
You win.
Is that supposed to be the CRM 114 ?
i'd buy it, except it's a lacie and therefore made of cheap chinese components.
